Title Level Definition Minimum Qualification
DIRECTOR 0 Directors are responsible for the ongoing leadership and oversight of a department, including the development of strategies and processes which contribute to the University and/or campus mission and accountability for services provided. Directors are responsible and accountable for the analysis of fiscal and human resources required to achieve department objectives including hiring, compensation, termination, and performance management of subordinate employees. Bachelor's degree in field related to the assignment and 5-8 year related experience. Preferred is a Master's Degree.
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR 1 Associate Directors are responsible for working closely with the Director to manage a department or specific areas of a department. These positions recommend strategy, have responsibility for fiscal and/or human resources and have the authority to act on the Director's behalf. Bachelor's degree in field related to the assignment and 5-7 year related experience.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR 2 Assistant Directors have responsibility for projects, functions or processes within a department. These positions may recommend strategy and provide professional support to Directors and may have the authority to act on the Director's behalf. Assistant Directors typically supervise other staff but do not generally control the allocation of fiscal or human resources. Bachelor's degree in field related to the assignment and 4-6 years related experience.
PROGRAM DIRECTOR 3 Program Directors are responsible for the ongoing leadership and oversight of a program or function, including the development of strategies and processes which contribute to the University and/or campus mission and accountability for services provided. These positions may or may not supervise others. Bachelor's degree in field related to the assignment and 4-6 years related experience.
MANAGER 4 Managers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of functional work units, including the development and implementation of processes consistent with college, school or departmental strategies and processes and the supervision of professional and support staff. Bachelor's degree in field related to the assignment and 4-6 years related experience.
PROGRAM MANAGER 5 Program Managers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of a program, function or work unit, including the development and implementation of processes consistent with college, school or departmental strategies and processes. These positions may or may not supervise others. Bachelor's degree in field related to the assignment and 3-5 years related experience.
PRINCIPAL PROFESSIONAL 6 Principal Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level. Bachelor's degree in field related to the assignment and 3-5 years related experience.
SENIOR PROFESSIONAL 7 Senior Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed fully independently. Bachelor's degree in field related to the assignment and 2-3 years related experience.
PROFESSIONAL 8 Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. At the professional level, duties may be more limited in scope, may be performed with guidance and direction from other professionals, or may be performed in a training and development capacity. Bachelor's degree in field related to the assignment and 0-2 year related experience.
ENTRY PROFESSIONAL 9 Interns are positions designed to develop professional skills through the performance of entry-level professional work that allows the incumbent to gain additional knowledge, skills and experience in the occupational field or for completion of an advanced degree, professional licensure, certification, or future professional advancement. The work is directly supervised by professionals in the field or other senior staff members of related disciplines. Bachelor's degree, assumption of receiving a bachelor's degree with 3 months, or related experience.

Minimum Qualification Considerations

  1. At the discretion of the hiring manager, professional work experience may substitute for the required education but not for additional experience.
  2. Employee in-line promotions within an established career path, for example from Professional to Senior Professional will NOT impact merit eligibility. Employees should be included in the Salary Increase Report (SIR) and receive merit based on performance.
  3. Consider the size and scope of the department when considering Program Manager/Director job codes.
  4. Certain functional groups may require specific certifications or licenses. as part of the minimums. Examples include, CISCO Networking Certificate, registered nurse, registered dietician, etc.
